Environmental activities in flight operations

The significant environmental effects of flight operations are the consumption of natural resources in the form of kerosene, and the related emissions of pollutants. Additionally, noise emissions are associated with flying. An airline can apply various measures to limit the burden on the environment as much as possible. Apart from the technical equipment of its aircraft and flight management performed by its pilots, passenger loads and the weight of service items loaded on board play an important role.

Lufthansa CityLine’s fleet consists exclusively of modern short- and medium-haul jets. From an environmental perspective, the Bombardier CRJ excels above all others, as it is considered as one of the world’s quietest commercial regional aircrafts. Beyond the perimeter of airport sites, it is usually no louder during takeoffs than a passenger car passing by in traffic. The CRJ900 is particularly fuel efficient with a consumption of 7.1 litres per 100 passenger kilometres.
