Environmental management system

A comprehensive environmental management system provides Lufthansa CityLine with the tools to monitor and document our environmental activities.

Environmental management in the Lufthansa Group

Lufthansa strives to maintain a balance between economic and ecological factors. Environmental protection is therefore a high-priority corporate goal of the Lufthansa Group. Lufthansa CityLine shares this aim with its parent company. The environmental guidelines which apply within the Group and the constant exchange of information guarantee that Lufthansa Group companies pursue this aim consistently. The Lufthansa Executive Board is responsible for ensuring that all the Group’s environmental goals are achieved. It is supported in this endeavour by the Group Department for Environmental Issues which is headed by the Group Commissioner for Environmental Issues. He both advises and supports the Executive Board in all matters relating to environmental protection and reports to it regularly.

The Commissioner for Environmental Issues is responsible for the Group’s environmental management system and makes regular assessments of its progress. In addition he chairs the Group Environmental Forum, which meets at regular intervals. It is his duty to co-ordinate the Group’s environmental activities with the contact persons and Commissioners for Environmental Issues of the individual Group companies.

Environmental management at Lufthansa CityLine

Lufthansa CityLine is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and as such is responsible for its own environmental protection programme. The introduction of an environmental management system created the organisational structure for the company to effectively implement its environmental policies. To support the management, a management representative for environmental issues acts for the company as a whole and is in charge of developing and maintaining the environmental management system at Lufthansa CityLine.

Responsibilities

Management is responsible for Lufthansa CityLine’s environmental policies and executing the tasks arising from them. The heads of the organisational units are responsible for ensuring that environmental measures and processes are implemented and documented in their area of responsibility. In this work they are supported by the Environmental Coordinators and the Commissioners for Environmental Issues. Environmental activities and the environmental management system are monitored via continuous internal and external audits.
